Global Call for Action Against Poverty – Malta (2007)
2005 is the year of the first review of the implementation of the UN Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) to be achieved by 2015.
In September 2005, the UN General Assembly will meet at a special session to review the implementation to date of this initiative, and to decide on the way forward for the next 10 years.
The current year gives us a concrete opportunity to test the political will of the world leaders who pledged their commitment towards initiatives put forward in the Millennium Declaration adopted in September 2000.
This global initiative encourages us to call on our governments to keep their promises.
We must build a broad coalition with a bottom-up approach to achieve the MDGs both in developing countries and in the North – the developed countries, which include Malta.
This path will enable us to work towards the eradication of extreme poverty and hunger
